Wherein I have made actual progress with something! OMG!
I Want to Read:
– Full Fathom Five by Max Gladstone
– Fiddlehead by Cherie Priest
– A Hat Full of Sky by Terry Pratchett
I Want to Write:
As much as I can. >>
As I write this, I have not yet finished Fiddlehead. Nor, indeed, have I started Fiddlehead. I should get on that. I’ve read both Full Fathom Five and A Hat Full of Sky, though! And then I went and read a fair number of other things too for a total of 11 stories, some online, some novellas or novelettes. Good times. ^_^
I also did my best to focus on writing. As always that’s a bit of a struggle. I’ve had days this past month where getting 500 words out absolutely exhausted me. (T_T) I’ve also had some really good days (compared to that) where I’ve managed a staggering 2,500 minimum. (And then subsequently spent the next two days wiped out. Stupid fatigue. I WAS GETTING SOMEWHERE.) Most of what I wrote this month was for the Demi-Princess story. I’m having a lot of fun with that. Or at least I am when I’m not busy banging my head against the wall in frustration.
It’s actually really interesting to me because with Sea Foam and Silence also actively being worked on, that means I’m writing three very different first person narrators at the same time. (Not literally!) I seem to be juggling them all right so far, but it’s definitely not an exercise I’d recommend if your narrators don’t have very strong (and distinct) voices.
So far this month I’ve written a good 10,000K fiction. Okay, I’ve actually just about scraped over it, but with the way the year’s been going I am over the moon with excitement and will have to do my best to keep it up! Since the Demi-Princess story is flowing along pretty nicely (when there are no horses to make me despair), that should actually work out. :O
Of course I also thought that last year when A Promise Broken was going nicely and we all know what happened there didn’t stick. I COULD HAVE FINISHED FOUR THINGS THIS YEAR ALREADY. Well, finished two things and two drafts. Stupid fatigue. Have I mentioned how much I hate the stupid fatigue?
Moving on to something far more fun! August goals!
I Want to Read:
- Zoo City by Lauren Beukes
- Wintersmith by Terry Pratchett
- Carry the Ocean by Heidi Cullinan
I Want to Write:
- As much as I can. >>
August will be interesting because it’ll be filled with… stuff. I know it’ll be filled with stuff. I have no idea what the stuff itself will consist of, but I know it’ll be filled with stuff. Ideally, I’d like to finish up the blog posts I’ve got lying around and some more discussions of what I’ve read. I’d also like to finish up Sea Foam and Silence (or at least get within sight of the finish line) and finally get a proper start on A Promise Kept. I’m really struggling to find where the story wants to begin and since I’m a linear writer trying to pick another starting point isn’t working. Grrr.
But hey two of the other projects I’m working on are cooperating, so I will worry about A Promise Kept not cooperating in a few months and just focus on the rest. Be positive and keep the achievements going and all that.
