But if you shine brightly,
And if you feel safe.

The monsters won’t come near
The lighthouse in the forest
Where Rapunzel dwells.

And if you look upward
And if you look down.

You might see the secrets,
Of the lighthouse in the forest
Where Rapunzel once dwelt.

You might meet Rapunzel
In the lighthouse in the forest
When she’s let down her hair.

This is a teaser post for my upcoming short verse novel, Rapunzel, Rapunzel. These teaser posts are made up of poems (or sections of poems) from the full verse novel. They were selected based on a couple of criteria:

  1. They showcase the kind of free verse poetry you can expect from Rapunzel, Rapunzel.
  2. They come together to tell a complete, if slightly different, short story all on their own.
  3. They fit into the image without looking terribly out of place.

I hope you’ll enjoy these teasers for Rapunzel, Rapunzel! I’ll be releasing one every week until January 10th. And then the week after that, Rapunzel, Rapunzel gets released as a whole!

Here’s the synopsis!

You can’t be Rapuzel forever.

Rapunzel, Rapunzel is a collection of poems, a fairy tale of modern life, growing up and falling in love. Or not.

Divided into five different parts, Rapunzel, Rapunzel explores the impact of anxiety and bullying, and the strength of love, for others and for ourselves. It muses on the difficulty of discovering who we are and how the masks we wear affect our lives and relationships.

Most of all, Rapunzel, Rapunzel is about embracing all aspects of yourself, even the ones you’re scared to show, and finding strength in who you are as a person.

If you like what you see, please consider spreading the word and/or preordering the ebook. Word-of-mouth and first-day sales visibility are incredibly important to authors to get their books to gain any kind of momentum and an audience, the more so to those of us who are indie authors. (Hi!) If you’re a paperback kind of person, I’ll be releasing the paperback around the same time as the ebook and if you’re an eligible Amazon customer you’ll be able to get the ebook for free along with it. So be forewarned of that happening!

Oh, and if you want to be sort-of spoiled for how the story in Rapunzel, Rapunzel is different from the teaser? I’ll give you a hint: this is all about masks and personas.

I hope your day is going well and that I just added a little bit of brightness to it with this teaser!
