Lastly for this year’s Asexual Awareness Week special edition of Lynn Rambles About Books And Uses Slides, I’d like to delve into the self-promo for a moment and talk about my books in a bit more depth because, being an acespec author, it tends to crop up in my books too.
So, hi! Let me introduce you to some of my books! 😀

I Want [This], But Make It Ace: Part 3

Posted October 26, 2019 by Lynn E. O'Connacht in Miscellaneous / 0 Comments

Yep, I’m still at it with the slide presentations. This is the last instalment in the mini-series. I’ll be delving into more generalised recommendations for representation. Basically, I’m taking a genre, a trope or a character archetype, etc that multiple people have asked for and grouped together 3-4 books that include both that and acespec representation. This is a special Asexual Awareness Week mini-series and focuses largely on trying to highlight some of the many books that are out there, but you may not have heard of them before.

Included in this video are:
Pirates and Captains and Such Things
Historical Fiction
Upcoming 2020 Releases

This is part 3 because otherwise this would be a very long video.

Week 43 Update

Weekly Accountability

Hi, everyone! It’s that time again! Weekly updates delivered every Friday!

Completed Projects

  • Meet my deadlines

Goal Updates

  • 11/12 books

Writing Updates

This Week’s Fiction Wordcount: 5,224

This Week’s Non-Fiction Wordcount: 9,356

DemiPrincess2: Prooooooogreeeeeeeeess. T_T It’s so slooooooooow. T_T Right now I’m in full awkward mode because the story is supposed to be very awkward and somewhat uncomfortable for, ah, Reasons. That deal with acespec people and dating and expectations and people being, you know, people. It’s great! But very awkward.

Life And Other Such Important Matters

THE PAPER OF DOOM IS DONE! Now I just get to anxiously worry about whether or not it will be accepted and what that means either way and I baked a cake and I have (finally) gathered everything I need for the most decadent of homemade hot chocolate EVER and also I did a mini splurge on books and I was so happy. I’m getting every closer to my goal of having print editions of at least one book by my fellow acespec writers and friends. (Which, if you’re curious and see the shelf in my acespec literature series for Asexual Awareness Week, is why I basically only have one book in a series at the moment.)

But, yes, I should probably have led with the whole “It’s Asexual Awareness Week!” aspect of this week, considering I’ve gone all out, as you’ve seen, by making a video a day talking about acespec literature. They’re all linked below if you’ve missed any. I’ve been so excited about this project and seeing people embrace it the way that they did has been really heartening! Thank you all for watching and sharing these videos and I hope that they’ve shared something interesting and introduced you to some awesome new books to enjoy! <3

Stand-out Positive Moment

One of my oldest and closest friends was there for me with a fabric emergency and very kindly let me pick their brain to figure out how to potentially salvage my poor socks and more or less kept me from falling apart. I have the bestest of friends.

Where to Find More Acespec Fiction

Posted October 23, 2019 by Lynn E. O'Connacht in Miscellaneous / 0 Comments

Welcome back to another instalment of my Asexual Awareness Week mini-series on fictional ace representation. Today I’m taking a quick break from recommending you specific book titles to stop and ask “But where do you FIND them, Lynn?”

The cheeky answer is that I looked until things started to turn up and then they just kind of… never stopped coming, but that doesn’t actually offer you anything concrete. So here are just some of the places and ways you can find asexual characters in literature.

AVENwiki: http://wiki.asexuality.org/Asexuality_in_fiction
AVEN forums: https://www.asexuality.org/en/
The Aromantic and Asexual Character Database: http://claudiearseneault.com/?page_id=1320
FYeahAsexual’s Actually Asexual 5.0 List: https://fuckyeahasexual.tumblr.com/post/174917178518/find-ace-characters-within-video-games
Coolcurrybooks’ way more entertaining slides: https://coolcurrybooks.tumblr.com/post/187108843908/asexual-spectrum-protagonists-in-science-fiction (This is part of a series about queer characters in SFF) She also has a database with lots of queer SFF in general: https://queersff.theillustratedpage.net/

And there’s plenty of other lists out there too, but these are the ones that have been most useful to me and should offer you a well-rounded way of finding the books that’ll work for you.

My Go-To Recs for Aces in Fiction: Part 2, the Ebook Edition version

Posted October 22, 2019 by Lynn E. O'Connacht in Miscellaneous / 0 Comments

Welcome back! I hope you all weren’t particularly attached to my masked face because it is time for the ebook all-slides portion of the program! Today for Asexual Awareness Week, I’m continuing my discussion of aces in literature and fiction by mentioning some more of my go-to recommendations to people.

I’ll tell you what I loved about them, what they’re about, all that goodness. If you’re looking for asexual characters in fiction, these are a great place to start and it’s basically another video of me geeking out about other people’s books with no regard for genre or theme or anything.

My Go-To Recs for Aces in Fiction: Part 1, the Print Edition version

Posted October 21, 2019 by Lynn E. O'Connacht in Miscellaneous / 0 Comments

Welcome back to Lynn Rambles! Today I’m diving into some of my go-to recommendations for asexual characters in fiction. With video because I actually get to wave print books around at you! This video is part of a mini-series I’ve recorded for Asexual Awareness Week 2019 and it pretty much covers a chunk of my go-to recommendations. I talk about the representation in the books, things you may want to watch out for, all that goodness.

But these are some of my personal favourites. Tomorrow, I’ll have an ebook version for you because, oh, did you think I was done giving recommendations? Oh, sweet viewer, there is *so* much more to mention. You’re in for a treat!

Let’s Talk Acespec Fiction for Asexual Awareness Week 2019

Posted October 20, 2019 by Lynn E. O'Connacht in Miscellaneous / 0 Comments

Tags:

It’s Asexual Awareness Week again and this is going to be the first video in a series discussing literature with asexual characters. This video aims to provide people with a general overview of what the state of ace representation in fiction is like right now. (It’s not great*, but I guarantee you, it’s better than most people think.)

This video is the first in a mini-series talking about asexual representation. I’ll be covering my go-to recommendations, more specialised recommendations, where you can find the representation yourself… All good stuff to help prepare you find the representation that you’re looking for!

But this video is just an introductory one where I geek out about books, as I do.

* Nominate me for an Understatement of the Century Award.

Week 42 Update

Weekly Accountability

Hi, everyone! It’s that time again! Weekly updates delivered every Friday! Wow, apparently I was one week off last week. It was bound to happen at least once this year because numbers. I’m surprised it didn’t happen sooner.

Completed Projects

  • THAT ESSAY OMG EVIL THING
  • AceAwarenessWeek Miniseries
  • Balanced by Those Horrors (draft 2)
  • Big Skies, Small Wings (draft 8)

Goal Updates

  • 6/12 books
  • Meet my deadlines

Writing Updates

This Week’s Fiction Wordcount: 5,224

This Week’s Non-Fiction Wordcount: 3,718

DemiPrincess2: I have no idea what I’m doing with these scenes except, apparently, attempt to create the most awkward double-date in the history of fiction. But hey words that did not exist before exist now! YAY!

Balanced by Those Horrors: This is a short dark ace retelling of Little Red Riding Hood. Sort of. With vampires.

Big Skies, Small Wings: This is on draft 8 now, wherein I’ve tackled some very valid issues people raised as best I could. I think that means I’m finally happy enough with this story to consider what to do with it again. Feels so nice to have it back in the done pile.

Life And Other Such Important Matters

Who knew that a week of being knocked out by a cold would actually be conductive to finishing things! My brain, everyone, it’s weird. But yeah. I got slammed pretty hard by a cold earlier this week and spent most of my days curled up in bed being miserable. I grew up in a household where you were supposed to just shrug off colds regardless of how terrible you felt, actually, but sometimes it’s just not happening. I miss the days where I caught every whiff of cold, but never enough to send me into bed for a week. And then, and then, just as the cold got through its worst, my period started because of course.

It also means I’ve been too grumpy to read much. You know how sometimes you read a book and it’s a perfectly fine book, but you’re pretty sure that if you stopped reading it in favour of another, you’d just end up abandoning it because it’s perfectly good and decent and it’s just not doing it for you? I have no patience for such books when I’m sickly and it’s what I picked up this week. Twice. Grumblegrumble.

But otherwise, life is going all right. New Dog is very good at taking his medication. I mean, he’s not fond of us shoving pills down his throat – I’d stuff it in his wet food, but the chances that Luna would steal it and take his meds instead is too great – but he’s sweet-natured about it. I’m sure the fact that he gets a treat afterwards has nothing at all to do with it. It’ll be a week or two before we have to arrange another vet visit for a check-up. To be honest, seizures are a health risk for the breed and it’s still too soon to tell if the pills have any effect at all, but I live in hope.

Beyond that. Life is pretty much same-old and fairly boring. I still have some pictures that I need to get off my camera and share with Patrons, but I just haven’t had the time. (And when I had the time, I was, you know, sleeping.) [hangs head]

Stand-out Positive Moment

This morning! When I woke up with a head that did not feel stuffed full of cotton wool!

I know, it’s tiny. I should probably say something like finishing an editing draft, but nope. It is the moment my head did not feel like cotton wool and I knew for sure that this cold was on its way out.
