March Newsletter

Hi, everyone! It’s that time again! Monthly news and accountability!

Life And Other Such Important Matters

Aaaaah! Life continues to be, well, life. Which means that there is nothing really remarkable about it and terribly boring. When it’s not terribly boring, it’s firmly in “Yeah, no, I don’t want to talk about it” territory. But hey print editions are back! Well, mostly. I still haven’t got around to announcing them properly because what even is organisation right now.

No, I don’t know. It’s weird. I’ve been way more put together in February the past few years, it feels like. But it’s March soon and that’ll mean the start of my whiteboard to-do list attempt! And planning birthyear celebration things for, er, March. And doing admin so much admin. I’ll be over here cowering in a corner. I have PLANS, though.

They’re small-scale plans but they’re plans.

AroWeek2020: I Want [This], But Make It Aro: Part 2

It’s Day 6 of Aromantic Awareness Week and the generalised book mentions continue! The idea behind this section is that I take commonly requested genres or tropes and list books that /also/ contain aromantic characters (in prominent roles).

Completed Projects

1/1 AroWeek video redos

March Goals

  • Print edition of Among the Glimmering Flowers
  • 10,000 words of fiction
  • 14 books

February Goals

  • 4,222/10,000 words of fiction
  • 17/14 books

Writing Updates

This Month’s Fiction Wordcount: 4,222

This Month’s Non-Fiction Wordcount: 0

Shorts: Honestly, pretty much every fiction word has been nonfiction as I try to rebuild my Patreon buffer of short stories for monthly release. Next year, I’m contemplating collecting my favourites and releasing them as a new collection. That’ll be fun!

Stand-out Positive Moment

AROWEEK! It was AroWeek, whoohoo! 😀 Also look! I did not forget that it was Saturday today!

Weekly Accountability

Hi, everyone! It’s that time again! Weekly updates delivered every Saturday! Unless it’s Sunday. Like today. IN MY DEFENSE, other people decided to keep me awake all night (idk, you’d think after 2 am people would have the courtesy to tone it down) and I spent most of yesterday desperately trying to catch up on sleep and/or getting the remaining items on my to-do list crossed off. I succeeded at neither of those, if you’re curious. I am very sad. And tired.

Completed Projects

  • 1/1 AroWeek video redos

Goal Updates

  • 871/10,000 words of fiction
  • 14/14 books

Writing Updates

This Week’s Fiction Wordcount: 2,532

This Week’s Non-Fiction Wordcount: Er…

Patreon Shorts!: Yep, that is officially a name now. I have a finished short story. A proper one that I’m likely going to be sitting on until November. But it is short and it took forever for all that it’s barely over 2,500 words because it is sad and tragic and it took everything I had not to make it explicitly queer (and therefore tragic queer).

Life And Other Such Important Matters

[nods up] See ramble at the very start. I am. So tired. Please let me sleep.

Stand-out Positive Moment

It was AroAwarenessweek! I saw so many lovely and wonderful aro content on Twitter this week. 😀

Weekly Accountability

Hi, everyone! It’s that time again! Weekly updates delivered every Saturday!

Completed Projects

  • 3/3 proofs checked

Goal Updates

  • 0/? AroWeek video redos
  • 871/10,000 words of fiction
  • 11/14 books

Writing Updates

This Week’s Fiction Wordcount: 155

This Week’s Non-Fiction Wordcount: Nope

Promises2: Look! Wordage! I’m slowly inching my way through what I expect is the worst of the changes and, well, it’s slower than I’d anticipated, but progress is progress.

Life And Other Such Important Matters

Otherwise, outside of writing, life continues as it does. I don’t have a lot to say beyond spring approaching meaning New Dog is no longer content not to be out and about.

Stand-out Positive Moment

I’ll go with the emails that the books I’d spent almost two weeks trying to get (back) in print were available in print. (Proper announcement to follow because wow my schedule is ridiculous this week.) But after two weeks of trying to get people to tell me what the actual issue(s) were, I fiiiiiinally got them sorted.

Not quite how I wanted, but to be honest font size is not a hill I’m particularly willing to die on in this case. And that means I’ve got all of the print editions I wanted to have available for AroWeek for sure actually available! Whoo!

Weekly Accountability

Hi, everyone! It’s that time again! Weekly updates delivered every Saturday! Or Sunday, as you can see I’m still getting used to the new schedule. Patrons on Patreon can expect the weekly vlog on Star Trek: Picard to go live later today.

Completed Projects

  • 4/7 proofs sorted (yep, no change just yet)
  • Go over nonfiction edits

Goal Updates

  • Get the final 3 proofs sorted in time for AroWeek
  • 0/? AroWeek video redos
  • 716/10,000 words of fiction
  • 6/14 books

Writing Updates

This Week’s Fiction Wordcount: 716

This Week’s Non-Fiction Wordcount: 0

Promises2: I have made actual progress! And also confirmed that the reason this one is being troublesome is because I’m making several large structural changes to the beginning. It should smooth out once I get past there and be a lot faster, but hey when has that ever worked out for me in the past year?

Life And Other Such Important Matters

Life… continues. There continue to be big things happening to people I care about that I would sincerely like not to happen to them, and I’m exceedingly tired of 2020 following in 2019’s footsteps this much. But it is what it is. We keep trying, put on a brave face and plod on forward as best we can. (But, seriously, though. I really appreciate boomers wrecking the economy for my generation this badly. Very generous.)

Let’s look at good things instead.

Stand-out Positive Moment

The stand-out moment is getting the answers I was looking for to keep the issue I’ve had with the remaining print editions from reoccuring! So I will, hopefully, have a proper announcement ready very soon.

February Newsletter

Hi, everyone! It’s that time again! Monthly news and accountability!

Life And Other Such Important Matters

Life… continues as it does. We muddle on through and do the best we can. As I write this, I’m side-eyeing a couple of things, but also have some good news. The print editions for my books are coming back! Eventually. I’m currently working through the proofs to make sure they’re all good quality, so have no idea when there’ll be a big announcement yet, but they’re coming!

With print editions coming, so are changes to Patreon! Those will likely roll out in March and they’ll focus on revamping the higher tiers. First I need to have the print books sorted, after all.

Featured Post

Let’s Read Academics: The Introduction to Ela Przybylo’s “Asexual Erotics”

This week we’re covering the introduction to Przybylo’s 2019 Asexual Erotics, an academic textbook I am, I admit, just the teensiest bit in book-love with just from reading the introduction. I suspect that short of Przybylo’s explanation of what this book is about, though, very little will be entirely new to many of you. The introduction is very much focused on building up the foundations for Przybylo’s theories about asexuality in the subsequent chapters, but there’s plenty to discuss and highlight still.

Completed Projects

4/7 proofs sorted

February Goals

  • Get the final 3 proofs sorted in time for AroWeek
  • Redo some of the AroWeek videos
  • Write 10,000 words of fiction
  • Read 14 books
  • Go over nonfiction edits

January Goals

I had no goals based on expected changes that went sideways, but I’ve still tried to get as much done on the admin side as I could.

Writing Updates

This Month’s Fiction Wordcount: 373 (ish)

This Month’s Non-Fiction Wordcount: 0

Promises2: I’ve managed a handful of words on this, but most of January went to rearranging all the changes that I’d previously set in motion and doing admin stuff. Also studying.

Stand-out Positive Moment

I got my package with book proofs! 😀
