Hi, everyone! It’s that time again! Weekly updates delivered every… not-Saturday! Because apparently I did the thing again where I forgot to do a weekly round-up. My sense of time is doing great! The worst part about this is that part of the use of the weekly round-ups for me is that they’re supposed to give me at least a vague sense of stability in terms of what date it is. (For those of you who are new, hi, yes, I am that terrible at dates and time.
- 17/14 books
- 1 short story draft (#3)
- 11,312/10,000 words of fiction
- 1 acespec essay draft
This Week’s Fiction Wordcount: 7,261
This Week’s Non-Fiction Wordcount: 486 (+ an hour of editing and setting up slides)
Woods: Draft 3 is now complete! I still like it, surprisingly, but it’s not quite where I want it to be, so it’s down to another rewrite-from-scratch draft. This is actually part of why I’ve forgotten to write the update last week. Last week was all about getting this draft done and I, er, may… have forgotten the rest of the world existed. Which is bad because, well, you see what happened. It’s also good because you do not want to know how much I have missed that level of immersion in writing.
Warrior Comp: I have just an outlinish introduction so far, which saddens me. I’d really hoped to have a whole draft done, but I got slowed by related projects. Short version: this essay intersects with the video series I’m doing on ace rep in fiction because most all the early ace rep is “warrior aroaces”, so I’ve got distracted from working on this essay by wanting/needing to prep the slides for the individual talks for both The Deed of Paksenarrion and The Protector of the Small. That’s seven books’ worth of material to sift through for citations and I, in my brilliance, didn’t annotate nearly enough for what I wanted, so this weekend got even further delayed by rereading the Paks trilogy. But hey I have the slides for Paks now and it should be a bit easier for Kel’s books.
Life And Other Such Important Matters
I don’t really remember this week or last week terribly well. Last week was mostly lost in an editing haze of a short story. That actually stayed a short story in revision. What. I mentioned some of that above, though, so… Other things that happened is that I’ve been flailing a bit because, well, life. Without getting into things too much, let me just say I wish there was a lot less yelling happening around me and we have learned that I’m very slowly running out of cope for it and it scares me. This week I got to deal with random fatigue! All right, some of it was random fatigue and some of it was “Hey, did you garden yesterday?” I spent most of Friday and Saturday asleep. Fun times.
It also means I had to watch Love Never Dies twice because the first time I was so tired I missed about half the musical. At least I thought I’d missed half the musical. It’s more like I missed parts of some of the songs and… stuff that wasn’t in the musical that I really wanted and expected to be there. I have never wanted to shake a musical character as much as I’ve wanted to shake this lot. (Just all of them. Except Gustave.)
This next week is… going to be interesting. I’m going to be devoting it to homework. I have one final assignment to do and I’ll be done and know if I’ve passed this course. Beyond that I’d like to finish revising this short story since it’s so close to being done, do the slides for The Protector of the Small, record the new sets for YouTube and continue poking this comparative lit paper. And get back into the swing of Let’s Read Academics because oof, self, what even is this.
Stand-out Positive Moment
Oh, gosh. I don’t know. Was it The Phantom of the Opera that was shown on YouTube last week? Because if so: finally seeing a proper musical rendition of that, I think. I’ll go with that because my memory is just cheese at this point.
